How to care for your Wood Floors

At the end of every job, I leave with you not only a clean and beautiful floor, but also a Floor Care Folder that has all of the information you need from setting up your rooms with furniture to Regular Care.

You will find that taking care of a wood, vinyl plank or laminate floor is an effortless task. No mopping or harsh abrasives necessary.

The Floor Care Folder goes on to help you eliminate Scratches & Stains.

Of course I will always be personally available to answer any questions you may have about your floors.

Cleaning

You will find that cleaning your new hardwood floors is a pretty effortless task with the right knowledge!

Vacuuming your hardwood floors to remove dust and dirt is the most common practice. Just use the brush attachment or a vacuum that has a hard floor surface mode. Avoid the “rug beater” attachment as it can cause damage to the finish of your floor. Another GREAT alternative is to use a Swiffer dry pad to remove dust from your floor.

Mopping can be done to remove food grease, animal accidents and muddy tracks. A quick and easy way to do this is with 1/2 cup of white vinegar to 1 gallon of lukewarm water. Remember to ALWAYS ring out your mop before placing it on the hardwood floor. Wood and water don’t mix so be sure to dry your floor as you go and never leave the floor soaking wet. Murphy’s oil soap, mild detergents and even Endust can be used as alternative cleaners.

If you would like to purchase a hardwood floor cleaning system, we recommend Bona’s floor care system. It is a safe and very user-friendly product to use. The best part is that it can be found at most hardware stores, flooring stores and even major grocery stores like Acme!

Waxing

After years of animals, kids or heavy foot traffic, your floors may
become dull and scratched. To eliminate these scratches and protect your
floors for a lifetime, a paste wax can be applied.  Unlike with refinishing, this process has an instant dry time and does not require any furniture to be moved. It is very inexpensive to have your floors waxed and by doing so this process will clean, shine, fix those unsightly scratches, and rejuvenate the finish of your floors.

I recommend my customers have this done 1-2 times per year. Usually once in the spring time and one more time right before the holidays. In doing so you will extend the life of your hardwood floors for many years to come!
